When a vampire, or strigoi, appears at night it can take on the form of any animal or human it wants. If a strigoi is allowed to roam freely for seven years without being slain by a zealous vampire hunter, it develops into something more reminiscent of a nature sprite. Like other evil spirits, they hide away at sunrise but, contrary to common belief, are not destroyed by sunlight.
